Forget the Hellcat, Take This 730-hp Charger to Track Day—for 1/3 the Price

-Let’s face it; fast cars are expensive. Even a car with one of the best horsepower-per-dollar ratios out there, the Dodge Charger Hellcat, will run you north of $60 grand. So when a “Dodge Charger” pops up on eBay, one that makes more power than a Hellcat for one-third the monies, we’re going to take notice.

-

What we’ve got here is a fourth-generation stock car built by Cunningham Motorsports for competition in ARCA, a professional road-race and feeder series for NASCAR. These cars are similar to NASCAR vehicles of yesteryear, and in many cases they’re hand-me-downs from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series but are used for road course, dirt track, and oval racing. They’re motivated by NASCAR-derived V-8 engines with displacements ranging from 350 to 360 cubic inches.

This particular car has a Dodge Mopar R5 NASCAR engine that makes a claimed 730 horsepower. With a curb weight somewhere around 3400 pounds, it’s graced with a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 4.7 lb/hp—for reference, a Charger Hellcat sits right at about 6.5 lb/hp and a Ferrari LaFerrari is 4.4 lb/hp. This is a seriously fast car.

And if you love going to the track but are tired of the usual issues, fear not, because this car’s built to take it. Annoying brake fade? No problem; it’s got massive six-piston Brembos with brake-system cooling fans. Tired of blowing up engines in those long sweepers? Easy. This thing’s got a 22-quart dry-sump lubrication system. Sick of getting passed because you don’t have enough power? Don’t worry, you won’t be pointing anybody by for the pass.

With this beast, your track-day problems disappear.
