2017 Subaru BRZ Gets Performance Upgrades, Starts at $26,315

CARS.COM - Subaru has given its 2017 BRZ sport coupe appearance and handling tweaks, a new Performance Package and a starting price up $125 for the base Premium trim of $26,315, including an $820 destination fee. The coupe also offers a Limited trim and coming after is a special-edition Series.Yellow version.

All 2017 models get some minor appearance updates, including a new front bumper and LED headlights. The rear-drive coupes also get upgraded springs and dampers, a larger rear stabilizer bar and added bracing for stiffness. Manual-shift models get a 5-horsepower bump for the 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder to 205 hp; power is unchanged for the automatic. The stability control's thresholds have been raised enough, says Subaru, to change the name of the Sport driving mode to Track. Also standard on all models for 2017 are Incline Start Assist, steering-wheel controls for audio and cruise, a rear spoiler and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

The Premium trim, which is available only with the six-speed manual transmission, includes a 6.2-inch touch-screen multimedia system, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, Subaru Starlink phone integration and apps, satellite radio and a backup camera.

The 2017 BRZ Limited trim will start $2,150 higher at $28,465 with manual or $29,565 with six-speed automatic, and adds LED fog lights, heated front seats and side mirrors, keyless access, paddle shifters with the automatic and a 4.2-inch driver information display with performance data. Upgraded seats have Alcantara simulated suede inserts, leather bolsters and red stitching.

Available on manual-transmission Limited models is a new $1,195 Performance Package that includes Brembo brake calipers, larger front and rear brake rotors, Sachs Performance shock absorbers and special 17-inch black aluminum-alloy wheels.

The 500-unit Series.Yellow edition is priced at $30,515 and is based on the Limited trim with manual transmission and the Performance Package. In addition to its own yellow paint, the model gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with yellow stitching throughout the interior, and yellow BRZ logos on the seats and floor mats.

The 2017 Subaru BRZ will go on sale in September. The Series.Yellow version will arrive early next year.
