Here's one less thing for the ultra-rich to worry about: A new Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan is on its way. The British brand has confirmed that the redesigned Phantom will arrive in 2018.
-In an effort to shed a few pounds, the forthcoming Phantom will use an aluminum architecture, pictured above, which will trickle down to all of its future luxury cars-including its new SUV. Sadly, that cohort will not include new versions of Rolls-Royce's stately Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe (convertible); those models are not being replaced.

Unveiled more than a dozen years ago, the current Phantom has undergone modest updates that included a thorough refresh for the 2013 model year, as well as a barrage of bespoke special-edition models. Production is finally set to end on December 31, although the company claims it will have Phantoms to sell “well into” 2017. That's still more peace of mind for those equally impatient and well heeled, who just can't wait for the new version.
