Still lightly camouflaged, here is the Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe in final testing at Hockenheim racetrack in Germany. To be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show this September, Mercedes-AMG’s response to the BMW M4 is a surprisingly distinct and almost brutal variation of the rather elegant next-gen C-class coupe.

We already know that the C63 and C63 S coupe will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged 469-hp or 503-hp 4.0-liter V-8 found in the AMG GT supercar (and in the C63 and C63 S sedan). The body will have entirely unique front and rear fenders to accommodate larger wheels and tires, and the center of gravity will be lower than the sedan’s.

These shots, released on Daimler’s social-media channels today, reveal further details: The hood has a unique contour with “power domes,” there is a large rear spoiler, and the front air intake mirrors that of the C63 sedan.

We expect the Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe to be priced similar to the sedan. But with a body that bears more than a passing resemblance with the AMG GT supercar, it looks to be the far more interesting of the two.
