CARS.COM - The Subaru Forester's price moves just a tick higher for 2017; the refreshed model adds improvements to cabin quietness, gas mileage and styling. An entry-level 2.5i model with manual transmission and all-wheel drive now is $23,470 with destination, up just $225 from the 2016 model's starting price; all trim levels see similarly small increases.

Trims powered by the base 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine include the 2.5i, 2.5i Premium ($26,370), 2.5i Limited ($30,070) and 2.5i Touring ($32,170, while the more-powerful 250-hp,  turbocharged 2.0-liter four is available as a 2.0XT Premium ($30,170) or 2.0XT Touring ($35,170).

The popular Forester 2.5i Premium with automatic transmission is now $26,870, up $225, and includes 17-inch wheels, Subaru's foul-weather X-Mode with hill descent control, automatic climate control and a newly available power liftgate with programmable height as part of a $2,145 package. Also included in that package is Subaru's EyeSight forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking system, which for 2017 also includes lane keeping assist, blind spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert as well as upgraded cameras for wider, longer field of vision.

A less-expensive version of EyeSight is available for $1,695 without the power liftgate. A 2.5i Premium with EyeSight is $28,565 and is one of the more reasonably priced compact SUVs with a precollision system. The 2016 Honda CR-V, for example, limits the technology to its $32,995 Touring model, while the 2016 Toyota RAV4 XLE is $29,540 with a precollision system.

Forester Limited and Touring trims up the feature count with standard blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist and rear automatic braking, and can include higher-end features like saddle brown leather upholstery, adaptive LED headlights, a heated steering wheel and power driver's seat with two-position memory.

The 2017 Subaru Forester goes on sale in late summer 2016.
