2016 GMC Sierra Elevation Edition: Because Blacked-Out Trucks

2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Edition

It’s back! Well, it never really left, but the truck to which it was applied was refreshed for 2016. The “it” we’re referring to is the darkly trimmed GMC Sierra Elevation Edition, a special-edition version of GMC’s Sierra 1500 pickup festooned with black trim pieces in the mold of, well, every other murdered-out special-edition model out there. We’re of course talking about the myriad Midnight, Black Out, and, uh, Midnight–labeled special-edition cars and trucks built by Chevrolet, Cadillac, Nissan, and others.

But back to the Elevation! As before, it comes with body-color door handles, body trim, and bumpers, as well as black-painted 20-inch wheels. Of course available with black paint, the GMC does open things up a bit by offering colors that aren’t black, meaning it’s more of a monochrome package. But GMC still felt compelled to photograph the black-painted version, so no points for originality will be awarded.

The same massaged front-end styling applied to other 2016 Sierras is present and accounted for, as are HID headlights, a 7.0-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a remote-locking tailgate, heated side mirrors, a 110-volt AC power outlet, black-finished tow hooks, and a six-speaker audio system. Buyers can choose either the Sierra’s base 285-hp 4.3-liter V-6 or optional 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8, as well as two- or four-wheel drive; the body choice is fixed, as only the double-cab body style offers the Elevation package. The special-edition Sierra goes on sale early next year, although pricing has yet to be announced.
