CARS.COM -- The world will get its first up-close peek at a pair of all-new BMW vehicles next month at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2016 BMW M2 coupe and the X4 M40i compact SUV, will bow at the show on Jan. 11.

The M2 is the much-anticipated successor to BMW's 1 Series. The rear-wheel-drive coupe ups the performance factor with a 365-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that's mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. BMW says it's good for a zero-to 60-mph sprint of 4.2 seconds. Its exterior styling is more muscular in front; around the rear, there's a new spoiler, integrated air diffuser and quad exhaust ports. The M2 is set reach dealerships in the spring.

The X4 M40i, meanwhile, is set to go on sale in February. Car shoppers will then be able to get a taste of the 355 hp and 343 pounds-feet of torque produced by the all-wheel-drive SUV's powertrain. It uses a six-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW says it clocks an impressive 4.7-second zero-to-60-mph sprint. Exterior styling flourishes include gray metallic accents on the face and side mirrors and black chrome tailpipes with its sport exhaust system.

The 2016 North American International Auto Show kicks off with media-preview days Jan. 11-12 at Detroit's Cobo Center, and we'll be there to cover these vehicles and all the rest.
