The problem: These vehicles may emit a fuel odor from the rear. This is due to possible fuel leaks coming from the gas tank assembly. Fuel leaks in the presence of an ignition source, such as a hot exhaust pipe, can result in a fire.
Corrective action: Mercedes-Benz is extending the warranty on the gas tank assembly from four years/50,000 miles to 15 years with no mileage limitations. On vehicles exhibiting a fuel odor from the rear, dealers will replace the gas tank assembly, which includes the tank, fuel pump, filter and gaskets. Techs will replace any suspect fuel lines, as well.
Warranty info: Repairs will be covered under the extended warranty.
What owners should do: Call your local dealer with your vehicle's identification number to determine if your vehicle is involved in this extended warranty action. You can also call Mercedes-Benz at 800-367-6372. Reference TSB No. P-47-10-63.
