2012-14 Mazda3, 2013-14 CX-5, 2014 Mazda6 Whining Transmissions

Vehicles affected by this service bulletin:

  • 2012 Mazda3 with 2.0-liter engine
  • 2013 Mazda3 with 2.0-liter engine
  • 2014 Mazda3 (VINs JM1 and 3MZ)
  • 2013 Mazda CX-5 with 2.0-liter engine
  • 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • 2014 Mazda6 with 2.5-liter engine

The problem: These vehicles may exhibit a whine that emanates from the transmission while traveling at speeds of 10 mph and faster. The problem occurs in all types of driving situations: acceleration, deceleration and steady speeds. It does not depend on rpms, gear or transmission temperature.

Corrective action: On affected vehicles, dealers will confirm the condition and replace the vehicle's transaxle. Techs will then road-test the vehicle to confirm the condition is gone.

Warranty info: Repairs will be covered under Mazda's powertrain limited warranty, which is good for 60 months/60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
