What Does This Button Do in the 2016 Volvo XC90?

Oftentimes, when installing a car seat during a Car Seat Check, I come across a question only the owner's manual can answer. Such was the case in the 2016 Volvo XC90.

Off to the glove box! But how do you open the glove box to grab the manual?

The glove box doesn't have a traditional lever you pop for access; rather it opens via a console area button under the multimedia screen. And there was the typical assortment of manuals waiting for me to thumb through.

But after spending a few minutes exploring the Sensus multimedia system, the paper manual in the glove box was moot.

The new XC90's multimedia system is an enormous, tabletlike touch-screen. The 9-inch screen replaces most of the traditional audio and climate controls, and, it turns out, a physical copy of the owner's manual.

I was able to quickly find the owner's manual after a few clicks and display it on screen.
It reminded me a lot of scanning a magazine article on my Kindle Fire, though the material wasn't quite as gripping.
