As many families know, just because a vehicle has a third row does not mean it's functional, let alone comfortable. Three-row SUVs can be the trickiest of all; their size makes you believe that there's loads of space for passengers, but that's often not so. Many have tiny third rows that compromise passenger comfort. The redesigned 2015 Lincoln Navigator nails the third row.

While it would seem that the key to comfort back there is enough length between the second-row seatback and the edge of the third-row bench, but what's equally important (and often forgotten) are the footwells. Anyone sitting in a third row with knees to chest for more than 5 minutes knows this.
Lincoln appears to have figured it out and created a third-row footwell comfort zone. Taller people's legs have room to bend and rest comfortably on the floor — nowhere near their chin. At 37.6 inches, third-row headroom is accommodating, though not overly abundant. People who are shorter than 6 feet tall will be the most comfortable.
In some third rows, passenger safety is overlooked, but the Navigator has standard side curtain airbags in all three rows. And those third-row passengers also get some amenities such as cupholders and a tray for knocking out homework on the drive to hockey practice.
Lincoln executed the third row so well that my kids and their friends fought over who got to sit back there. Now that's impressive.
