We are, it’s safe to say, extremely excited about the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The tidy rear-drive sports sedan very clearly has BMW in its gunsights—particularly in 510-hp, twin-turbo V-6 Quadrifoglio spec. And from what we’ve heard so far, it’s got a scintillating soundtrack. This Nürburgring video of a lightly camouflaged example only confirms that.
-Posted by Nürburgring maven and solid YouTube poster “cvdzijden,” what we have here is nearly two minutes of a dazzle-wrapped Giulia attacking the famous Green Hell. The car looks very well planted, with only brief moments at the ragged edge of traction. The engine sounds fierce and strong, and the brakes seem particularly powerful—at certain moments of braking leading into the ’Ring’s tight corners, we see the car’s hazard lights flashing, a European-market safety feature activated by extremely hard braking.

It’s becoming exceedingly clear that if Alfa Romeo wants to compete with the major automakers, it needs the Giulia to succeed. Judging by the way this preproduction example hustles around Germany’s most challenging racetrack, Alfa’s taking this challenge very seriously.
