The revised 2016 Acura RDX, the redesigned 2016 Nissan Maxima and the all-new 2016 Honda HR-V have earned the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's five-star safety rating for crashworthiness.

The RDX compact luxury SUV repeated its 2015 performance, receiving the top score of five in its overall frontal and side crash ratings, and a four in rollover tests, for an overall vehicle score of five stars; that's for both the front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions. For 2016, the RDX got new front and rear styling, a more efficient and powerful engine, and a new optional multimedia system.
The Maxima sedan, meanwhile, scored a perfect five across the board. That's a marked improvement from the last time it was tested for the 2014 model year when it received only three stars in the frontal crash evaluation and four stars overall. The overhaul of Nissan's full-size flagship sedan includes performance-oriented exterior restyling, a redesigned 3.5-liter V-6 engine and new continuously variable automatic transmission.
The all-new HR-V subcompact SUV enters the market with a five-star overall vehicle score. Both the all-wheel and front-wheel-drive versions received four stars in frontal-crash and rollover ratings, and a side-crash rating of five. The five-seat HR-V arrived at dealerships the past spring, joining the fast-growing subcompact SUV class with a stylish appearance and versatile cargo space.
