What Mileage Does the New Honda Fit Get After 8,000 Miles?

We put another 4,000 miles on Cars.com's long-term Honda Fit test car since our previous update and have now eclipsed the 8,000-mile mark in the little red hatchback. Its fuel economy has been up and down. We've recorded a new best mileage on a tank at 40.9 mpg, up from 40.1 mpg, which exceeds the continuously variable transmission-equipped Fit's 38 mpg EPA highway rating.

Our Fit sees heavy city duty in our downtown Chicago headquarters, however, and there were also a number of fill-ups in the 33-35 mpg range. The lifetime average of 34.6 mpg is one-tenth of an mpg higher than before and just shy of the car's combined 35 mpg EPA rating.
