CARS.COM — Having already (almost) doubled its doors, the 2016 Mini Clubman is now doubling its drive wheels. An all-wheel-drive ALL4 model will join the lineup this spring.

With the ALL4, Mini promises improved handling in poor weather with an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system that works in tandem with its stability control system to enable optimal power distribution at all times and in abruptly changing situations.
Mini says the ALL4 uses front-wheel drive in normal driving conditions but adapts instantly to different driving conditions as its control unit continuously calculates the ideal distribution of power between the front and rear wheels.
The ALL4 will be available with both Clubman powertrains. That includes the base 1.5-liter three-cylinder, which makes 134 horsepower and 162 pounds-feet of torque, and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder of the Cooper S Clubman, which is good for 189 hp and 207 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines are available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
According to Mini, the Cooper S Clubman ALL4 boasts a zero-to-60-mph time of 6.7 seconds with the manual transmission and 6.6 seconds with the automatic on its way to a top speed of 140 mph; that's a 0.3-second improvement over the regular Cooper S Clubman for both transmissions. The base engine with all-wheel drive sprints to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds.

ALL4 inscriptions on the front side panels will distinguish the model and like the regular Clubman, the ALL4 will have four doors and a split rear door, as well as seating for five and 17.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats.
The 2016 Clubman starts at $24,950 for the base version and $28,500 for the high-performance S model. All-wheel-drive adds $1,800, bringing the base ALL4 to $26,750 and the S ALL4 to $30,300. All prices include an $850 destination charge. The redesigned Clubman will go on sale later in January, and the ALL4 will launch in April.
