CARS.COM — The California Air Resources Board has rejected a proposed fix by Volkswagen on its diesel 2.0-liter engines, officials said today. Neither Volkswagen nor regulators provided full details on exactly what the fix was, but CARB says the plan was too unspecific in its technical changes and how they would impact affected cars. The EPA said today that it agrees with CARB.

Today's rejection likely means it could take longer for VW engineers to fix its diesel emissions systems, which affects nearly 600,000 VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles in the U.S.
The automaker said it's still working to "develop a swift, fair and independent program, which will provide a comprehensive remedy for our customers."
