Clearly understanding that there can never be too many ways to keep its Silverado pickup interesting, Chevrolet has been rolling out a steady stream of special editions, each with its own thematic paint-and-stripe jobs and names like “Blackout,” “Rally Edition,” and our favorite, “Special Edition.” Surprising no one, then, Chevy has announced yet another special edition Silverado, this one celebrating Chevy’s relationship with the preeminent maker of all things camouflage, Realtree.
-Aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, the Realtree edition is based on the Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 crew cab, which brings Rancho shocks, underbody protection, tow hooks, and a locking rear diff. Thankfully, Chevy and Realtree opted not to fully wrap the thing in one of Realtree’s camouflage patterns, which look like—you guessed it—real trees. Taste prevailed as Chevy applied only a few patches of camouflage to the hood, tailgate, and front doors, while blacking out the grille, body trim, 20-inch wheels, and off-road steps. Interior changes include a smattering of camouflage graphics and Realtree logos, though nothing that actually came from a real tree.

Chevy and Realtree have quietly been an item for ten years, says Chevrolet, and this special edition Silverado is being described as the “strongest example” of their collective efforts. Might we see more Realtree trucks sprout up in the future? Who knows? In the meantime watch for Silverado Realtree editions to arrive in spring, just as the real trees are getting their leaves.
