FCA Hopes Muscle Car Fans Go Nuts for 'Plum Crazy'

As you can see from the photo above, Dodge has announced a cool limited-edition color for its iconic muscle cars, the Challenger and Charger: "Cars.com Purple." OK, it's not actually associated with Cars.com or our signature purple — that would be just plum crazy. But if Prince were to trade in his motorcycle for a muscle car, he'd almost certainly go crazy for the classic Plum Crazy color, which the automaker has revived after nearly a half century for a limited production run for the 2016 model year.

"From the aggressive and in-your-face styling of the SRT Hellcat models, the reverberating black stripes on our Shaker models, to the nostalgic dual A-line side stripes in satin black or gloss white on the R/T Classic model — Plum Crazy further builds on Dodge brand's muscle-car roots and adds to Challenger and Charger's vibrant legacy," a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles spokesman said in a statement.

Dodge dealers will take Plum Crazy Challenger and Charger orders starting in September, with production set to start in the fall. FCA says it's specifically targeting the performance-enthusiast demographic. Of the nearly 1.5 million Charger sedans and Challenger coupes produced since their return in 2006 and 2008, respectively, only 11 percent are limited-edition models or colors. Some other "crazy" colors have included Go ManGo, TorRed, Toxic Orange, Detonator Yellow and Green with Envy.

Plum Crazy will be available on Challenger models, including SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Classic, R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat. Charger models include: SXT (when equipped with 20-inch wheels), R/T, R/T Road & Track, R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat.
