Not Exactly the Bones Brigade: Lexus Releases Full Hoverboard Clip [Video]

Lexus Hoverboard and GS-F

-

One might recall the roughly 24-hour social-media freakout back in June when Lexus unveiled a working hoverboard. “It’s 2015,” the people rejoiced, “and hoverboards are a reality, just as Robert Zemeckis and Michael J. Fox told us they would be!” Toyota’s luxury division quickly quashed hopes that you’d be able to wander into a dealership and walk out with anything other than an RX, telling us that they’d worked with European engineers to create the contraption purely for marketing purposes.

And now they’ve released the full video featuring the mythical device, which we’ve helpfully embedded below. Using a specially constructed skate park built over some manner of ferrous material, skater Ross McGouran flits about on the thing, attempts a railslide, does some falling off, gets chased around by a drone, and eventually does what looks like garden-variety pool riding—except that he is, of course, not in contact with the surface of the wall. He also flies over a moving example of the new GS F.

It’s neat, for sure. The deck looks cool with all the condensation billowing from the liquid nitrogen used to cool the magnets. But can we talk about the soundtrack for a moment? We suppose it’s Lexus-demographic appropriate, but if they’d handed the project to us, we probably would’ve gone the something-totally-obvious route and used Suicidal Tendencies’ “Possessed to Skate.” Or at the very least, something by McRad.
