Officially a Thing: 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster

Officially a Thing: 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster

For as unsurprising as it was to see Lamborghini debut the all-new Aventador Superveloce roadster on the immaculate green lawns of the Quail Lodge at Pebble Beach weekend (rich people + money + easy production decision = expensive roadster, plus it was already confirmed), one aspect of the car did spark some surprise. This is the first topless Superveloce model the company has ever produced, and Lamborghini has been building Superveloces for a while.

But back to the Superveloce roadster’s blasé, predictable spec sheet; it’s gifted with the same 740-hp V-12 engine, wild aerodynamic body addenda, and lightweight diet as the Superveloce coupe. Prepare to be bored further by the SV’s 217-plus-mph top speed, and its claimed ability to hit 60 mph in less than 2.9 seconds. The SV’s meatier performance compared to sleepier Aventador roadsters also comes by way of losing 110 pounds, Lambo says.

The statistics really don’t matter, however, as much as the very compelling business case. It’s the same idea that drove Chevrolet to offer the Z06 as a convertible for the first time ever, and that which pushed McLaren to start offering droptop variants of the 650S. People want the car of their choosing with the biggest engine and the least amount of roof. Oh, and it helps that Lamborghini can charge more for each of the 500 Superveloce roadsters than for the coupe. How much more? Try $36,980, for a cool $530,075 total. Are you even surprised?
