2008 Chevrolet Silverado, 2008 GMC Sierra Oil Problems

Vehicles affected by this service bulletin:

  • 2008 Chevrolet Silverado HD
  • 2008 GMC Sierra HD

Only those equipped with diesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

The problem: Increased transmission oil cooling circuit pressure (experienced during vehicle operation at extremely low temperatures) may cause transmission fluid to weep or leak. This loss of fluid occurs near the transmission cooler, at the crimp joints on the metal ends of the cooler line where it joins the rubber hose.

Corrective action: Dealers will replace leaking transmission oil cooler lines.

Warranty info: Repairs will be done under an extended warranty (10 years or 150,000 miles from the original vehicle in-service date).

What owners should do: Call your local dealer with your vehicle's identification number to determine if it is eligible for this extended warranty. You can also call Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 800-462-8782 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236. Reference TSB No. 14308.
