A month has passed since revelations surfaced that certain Volkswagen diesel cars contain software designed to bypass emissions control devices while driving, resulting in excessive air pollution, and the effects continue to be felt in the used-car market. With a few exceptions, seller-set prices for affected VW diesels listed on Cars.com have fallen since we last looked a few weeks ago.

As of Oct. 15, prices for used Jetta sedans from the 2009 to 2014 model years have dropped from 2.9 to 4.5 percent versus the previous month. Prices for used 2015 Jettas, the last affected model year, were basically flat at an average of $22,320.
The 2013 Jetta SportWagen TDI diesel saw the biggest price drop with a 6.2 percent ($1,264) decline in the seller-set asking price to $19,193. Other model years of the Jetta SportWagen saw prices dip 2.3 to 4.5 percent.
Golf TDI hatchback prices were down more than 5 percent for the 2010, 2013 and 2015 model years. Prices were down 3.5 percent ($831) for used versions of the 2015 Golf SportWagen TDI S.
Prices for 2013 and 2014 diesel Beetles continued sliding, falling 3.3 and 0.7 percent, respectively. The 2015 Beetle TDI, however, upended the trend; its $23,949 asking price is 2.1 percent ($502) higher than just before the VW diesel-emissions news broke in September.
Diesel versions of the 2012 to 2015 Passat midsize sedan are also affected. Asking prices for the 2013 model have dropped the most — down 4.1 percent ($783) for an SE trim level. Used 2015 Passat diesel prices, while still down, have made up some ground in the past few weeks and are now off just 1.4 percent ($349) from a month ago.
