-Earlier this year, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer floated the idea of a 1000-hp, fully electric version of the stunningly gorgeous—and typically V-12–powered—Rapide S sedan. Just a few months later, here it is! It’s dubbed the RapidE, since the letter E is synonymous with electric stuff, and slapping an uppercase E at the end of a car’s name that already ended with the letter e seems cheeky and clever. The electric sedan has been revealed in England, but unfortunately its debut isn’t accompanied by much in the way of specifics.
So we don’t yet know whether the RapidE comes packing a Tesla Model S–trumping 1000 horsepower (the most powerful Model S has 762 ponies), but it certainly is electric. Presumably, the car would go up against the Tesla and also whatever Porsche’s Mission E concept may turn into.

The company’s CEO says he sees “luxury electric vehicles as an intrinsic part of [Aston Martin's] future product portfolio.” He also “welcome[d] ChinaEquity into the next phase of study for the project development.” That’s right, Aston Martin is getting some cash for the development of the RapidE from a Chinese investment firm, which is great. But c’mon, Aston—does it have 1000 horsepower or not? And when can we drive it?
