Peter Gabriel Is Pleased: Hyundai Announces 2016 Genesis, Azera Pricing and Updates

Hyundai is taking an if-it-ain’t-broke strategy with two of its upper-tier models. The front-wheel-drive Azera and the rear-drive-based Genesis receive modest updates for the 2016 model year, as well as a nudge on the pricing front.

The Genesis, which we like, now receives HID headlights and LED running lights as standard. “Ultra-premium fog lights,” previously reserved for the V-8 cars, are now available on both the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models powered by the 3.8-liter V-6. As for the 5.0-liter eight-cylinder version, it’s now only offered in one trim level: the twice-baked Ultimate spec, which will run you $54,800. On the V-6 front, rear-drive models will start at $39,700, while AWD cars begin at $42,200.

The handsome, if dynamically questionable, Azera is available with only one engine: a 3.3-liter V-6. It comes in two trim levels, base and Limited, the latter of which is the only Azera to see upgrades. The Limited cars now include an electronic parking brake and Hyundai’s Smart Cruise control with stop/start. A base Azera punches a $34,995 hole in the pocket (a $100 increase over 2015), while the Limited will set you back $40,195.
