It's no surprise that this month's fastest-selling car is actually a pickup truck. Pickups are perennial best-sellers, with Ford's F-Series, Chevrolet's Silverado and Ram's 1500 riding the top slots in the sales list each month. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab is also hot, staying on dealer lots an average of only four days in September.
Volkswagen's Golf also made this month's fastest-sellers list at just 11 days, but that's likely to change as the diesel scandal continues to tarnish the brand.

On the slowest side is the 2015 XK, Jaguar's expensive, aging coupe and roadster. It tops the list at 354 days, which is considerably longer than the average time-to-sell rate of 72 days for all cars in September. Rounding out the bottom is the 2015 Smart ForTwo at 179 days. Its redesign for 2016 couldn't come soon enough.

About the Lists
The Fastest- and Slowest-Selling Cars list reports the average number of days it takes to sell models from the day they arrive on the lot until the final paperwork is signed by a buyer. This is not a days-of-inventory list like you may find on other websites. With lots mostly clear of 2014 models, we look exclusively at 2015s and 2016s. For the fastest sellers, we only list vehicles that pass a certain threshold of sales in order to weed out limited editions, ultra-high-performance cars and others that might skew the numbers or otherwise inaccurately portray popularity. To highlight all slow sellers, slowest sellers have no such threshold.
Our Picks highlight cars that take a significant time before they're sold and might be overlooked by shoppers. Dealers could be more motivated to sell these cars.
