Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo has been available to “drive”—virtually—for over a year, but now Nissan has confirmed that the concept is making its real-life debut at the Tokyo auto show later this month. The concept also hints at the next-generation GT-R.

The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo was first revealed in June 2014 and was released a month later on the driving simulation Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3. Co-developed with Polyphony Digital, the actual Concept 2020 Vision GT differs little from the digital racer; it will appear at Tokyo in “fire knight red” paint and with Nissan’s latest “V-motion” grille graphic.

When it showed the 2020 Vision GT concept more than a year ago, Nissan made it clear it was not merely a flight of fantasy. “This is a look at what a high performance supercar from Nissan may look like in the future,” said the Japanese carmaker at the time.

Nissan has previously stated it has already begun work on the next-generation GT-R, and it’s believed development has now moved from North America to Europe. Unlike Nissan’s ill-fated, staggered-track ZEOD RC Le Mans racer, which featured by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine and two electric motors, the next GT-R could be powered by a hybrid version of the existing model’s 545/550-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 co-developed by NISMO and nine-time Formula 1 constructor’s champion Williams.

Williams Hybrid Power (WHP), which created the electromechanical composite flywheel system now used in Porsche and Audi racers, will use the same technology to increase the next GT-R’s power output to as much as 800 horsepower. The next Godzilla also is said to weigh significantly less than the R35, spelling improved fuel economy, quicker acceleration, a higher top speed, and better track times.
