2017 Chrysler Pacifica Starts at $29,590

CARS.COM — The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan will start at $29,590, including a $955 destination fee, for the base LX version —  about $1,400 cheaper than the base Town & Country LX van it replaces.

Base prices for other Pacifica models will range to $43,490 with destination when the new minivan goes on sale this spring. Chrysler released prices today for all models except the Pacifica Hybrid plug-in version, which is scheduled to go on sale later this year.

The base Pacifica LX also is slightly cheaper than base 2016 Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, its two major competitors, which start at $30,300 and $29,750 respectively (all prices include destination fees).. The Pacifica has a substantially higher starting price than the 2016 Kia Sedona — winner of our Ultimate Minivan Challenge — which has a base price of $27,295.

With low-slung, aerodynamic styling, a roomier interior and redesigned Stow 'n Go seats, the Pacifica signals a fresh design approach to minivans by Chrysler. All gasoline models will have front-wheel drive, a 3.6-liter V-6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission controlled by a dial shifter. Seating for up to eight will be available.

Standard equipment on the Pacifica LX will include Stow 'n Go seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, aluminum wheels, a backup camera and keyless entry.

The Pacifica Touring trim adds standard satellite radio, power sliding doors, automatic headlights and other features for a base price of $31,490. The Touring-L adds leather seats, heated front seats, remote start, three-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, rear park assist, a blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic detection, and will have a base price of $35,490.

With a starting price of $38,890, the Touring-L Plus is the next step up and adds a standard 7-inch information display, 8.4-inch Uconnect touch-screen, heated steering wheel and second-row seats, a 13-speaker audio system and other features.

The top-of-the line Limited model adds memory functions for the front seats, mirrors and audio system, ventilated front seats, power third-row seats, hands-free sliding doors, 3-D navigation and an integrated vacuum. At $43,490, the base price of the Limited is $1,850 higher than the starting price of the 2016 Town & Country Limited Platinum, the most-expensive outgoing version.

EPA fuel economy estimates for the gas models are 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. The combined rating is 2 mpg higher than the outgoing Town & Country, as well as 2 mpg higher than the Sedona, 1 mpg higher than the Sienna with front-wheel drive and the same as the Odyssey.

Among available features will be a surround-view camera system, second-row entertainment system, three-panel panoramic sunroof, foot-operated power liftgate, adaptive cruise control and forward collision alert.

Though the Town & Country goes away, production of the current-generation Dodge Grand Caravan, its corporate twin, is scheduled to continue into 2017 as a lower-cost alternative to the Pacifica. The 2016 Grand Caravan starts at $25,590.
